Rize – Where Premium Matcha is Born.

Rize – The cradle of tea on the Black Sea

Nestled in the green hills of the Black Sea region lies Rize, Turkey – known as the heart of tea cultivation. Tea has been grown, nurtured, and developed here for generations since the 20th century.

The special combination of humid climate, mineral-rich soils, and clear mountain air creates ideal conditions for tea cultivation. While Rize is traditionally valued for its distinctive black tea, we are opening up a new dimension of this still young yet deeply rooted tea culture with our Matcha.

Our Matcha combines the experience of the tea farmers in Rize with modern, particularly gentle processing methods. This results in a powder of exceptional purity, freshness, and quality.

With every cup, you experience more than just a drink – you experience a vibrant tea culture. Sustainably cultivated, carefully processed, and tested in European laboratories. A premium product that unites origin, craftsmanship, and enjoyment.

My Matcha Journey

I'm Osci, and I discovered my passion for matcha in 2021 while searching for a mindful alternative to coffee. It quickly became clear to me: quality, cultivation, and processing make all the difference.

From this enthusiasm, Matcha Revolution was born. Our matcha comes directly from my own tea plantation in Turkey and achieves near-organic quality – transparently and carefully processed.

Matcha Revolution stands for mindful enjoyment, clear origin, and tangible quality – from the tea field to your bowl.

To the shop

Rize, a province in Turkey, offers ideal conditions for tea cultivation, including matcha:

Geography: The region is located between the Black Sea and the Pontic Mountains, which creates a unique microclimate.
Climate: Rize has a mild, humid climate with high rainfall and fertile soil, which is perfect for growing tea plants.
Cultivation: The tea fields are terraced on the mountain slopes and extend from sea level to altitudes of 600 meters and above. This allows for the cultivation of tea plants under various conditions.
Specialty: The region is known for its black tea, but the climate and soil are also very well suited for the production of high-quality green tea, including Matcha.

Collapsible content

Microbiology

Our matcha is regularly tested microbiologically to ensure the highest purity.
Yeasts, molds, and mycotoxins were not detected in the laboratory or were below the detection limits – a clear sign of clean processing and high
product quality.

Pesticides

The matcha was tested for a wide range of pesticides.

Result: n.d. – not detectable

This means that none of the tested substances were found above the limit of quantification. A particularly positive result – especially with matcha, as the entire tea leaf is consumed.

Heavy metals

Heavy metals are also comprehensively controlled:
• Lead: 0.12 mg/kg
• Cadmium: 0.04 mg/kg
• Arsenic: < 0.1 mg/kg
• Mercury: < 0.01 mg/kg

Assessment: All values are low or considered non-critical and meet the standard requirements for tea products.

Further tests

  • Pyrrolizidine alkaloids: not detectable
  • Mycotoxins (e.g. aflatoxins, ochratoxin A): not detectable

Our Quality Standards

For us, quality begins with cultivation. That's why we regularly have soil samples taken and comprehensive laboratory analyses carried out. These analyses check for potential residues, heavy metals, and other contaminants – for maximum purity and safety.

Every single batch is additionally checked for its mineral composition and consistent quality. The analyses are carried out by independent, accredited laboratories that confirm our high standards.

We work according to strict quality guidelines and thus achieve quality at an almost organic level – conscious, transparent, and without compromise.

Shade-grown tea

To specifically influence the quality of the young tea leaves, our tea plants are shaded around April, shortly after sprouting. During this sensitive growth phase, we deliberately protect the bushes from direct sunlight.

Shaded cultivation allows the plants to concentrate valuable nutrients. At the same time, the chlorophyll content of the leaves increases significantly – the basis for the intense green color and the mild character of our tea.

Another crucial factor is L-theanine. This natural amino acid is largely responsible for the delicate umami flavor. The reduced sun exposure preserves this gentle, balanced taste and makes it particularly harmonious.

Tea harvest

Throughout the year, the tea plant undergoes several growth phases, resulting in different qualities. The first harvest takes place around May and is considered particularly high-quality, as the young shoots are especially tender, vibrant in color, and aromatic at this time.

After the first plucking, the plants sprout again. The second harvest takes place in August, followed by a third harvest in October. With each subsequent plucking, the structure, color, and taste of the leaves change – later harvests are generally milder and less intense.

Regardless of the harvest time, careful selection of the leaves plays a crucial role. For our high-quality grades, we exclusively use the fine leaf tips – the young shoot with the two smallest leaves. This selective harvesting forms the basis for a balanced taste, a fresh green color, and a particularly delicate texture.
