2. Add water

Carefully pour 70–100 ml of the prepared approx. 80 °C hot water into the bowl.

Make sure the water is not too hot, so that the matcha does not become bitter and nutrients are retained.

Cold water can also be used for preparation.

3. Whisk

Take the whisk and quickly whisk the matcha in a W or M motion until a fine, creamy foam layer forms. Small, even bubbles should form on the surface.

Tips for Preparing Matcha

  • Water temperature: Make sure the water isn't boiling to preserve the full aroma of the matcha.
  • Foam formation: A fine, creamy foam is the sign of a perfect matcha.
  • Matcha quantity: Experiment with the amount of powder to find your individual taste.

How to Properly Use Your Matcha Whisk

The chasen, the traditional matcha whisk, is indispensable for perfect preparation – but how do you actually care for and use it correctly? In this guide, we'll show you what matters so that your matcha always turns out beautifully frothy and your whisk lasts a long time.

1. Clean after every useRinse the fine bristles of your chasen under warm water. Avoid soap or other cleaning agents, as these could damage the natural material.

2. Dry correctly
Let the whisk air dry, preferably on a special matcha whisk holder (Chasen Yasume). This preserves the shape of the bristles and prevents them from breaking.

3. Do not soak in water for too long
Bamboo is sensitive to moisture. Never leave your whisk in water for extended periods, as this can cause the material to swell and deform the bristles. Also, never soak the entire whisk in water.

Can matcha be prepared cold?

For warm days or when you're in a hurry, cold-prepared matcha is an excellent choice. Preparation in a shaker is a popular method. For this, you use one to four scoops of matcha powder and add 150 to 500 milliliters of water, depending on your preference. The mixture is then vigorously shaken, with added ice cubes elevating the matcha to an ideal summer drink.

Thanks to the low water temperature, the valuable vitamins are preserved. The basic recipe can be varied in many ways by adding milk, ice cream, or other ingredients to regularly bring variety to your tea creation.
